Photos: Jacob O'Connor's trip to Chic Choc

Written by Jacob O'Connor

Mid-February a group of friends and I sent it up to Les Chic-Choc Mountains in Quebec. Over a meter of snow fell on the small mountain range in just 24 hours. With a surprisingly stable snowpack we were able to take full advantage of the conditions. Here is a quick snapshot of our adventures.

After a Nor’easter deposited 3ft. of snow overnight in the Parc national de la Gaspésie, the first turns on Mont Lyall didn’t disappoint. Photo: Hans Von Briesen

With the help of Ski Chic Chocs and our guide Alex Robert, we were able to spend another full day of deep powder in the Mines Madeleine area. Photo: Hans Von Briesen

Before another day in the Chic Choc Mountains we spent the sunrise hitting a booter in front of our chalet in the small town of Cap-seize. Photo: Hans Von Briesen

The Mines Madeleine area was formally a copper mine that ceased operation decades ago. The only remnant of the mine is an old mining road to the basin seen above. Photo: Dana Allen

Another photo of our early morning jump session. Perfect way to loosen up before skiing waist-deep pow all day. Photo: Dana Allen

Brand Ambassador, Jacob O'Connor (Instagram: @jahcobo) was raised in the Roaring Fork Valley in central Colorado and has been with RMU family for 3 seasons. As a contributor at Backcountry Magazine, he will be traveling to Maine, Silverton and the Mosquito and Elk mountain ranges for backcountry ski missions this spring.
