RMU Scholarship
The RMU educational scholarship program supports one recipient with financial aid, gear sponsor and provides mentorship. The program is open to everyone and anyone wanting to pursue a career as a certified guide or avalanche professional.
When great minds, and brands, with shared core values comes together
At RMU, Steamworks Brewery and Stellar Equipment, we believe in community. Based on these values, we created a scholarship program that not only provides financial aid and gear support, but also provides a community and a mentor for support. Apply for this scholarship to receive financial support to pay for your course fees and life expenses.
We are proud to offer one individual with $2500, an RMU Ambassador Level Sponsorship and Mentoring by ACMG Apprentice Ski Guide Sofia Forsman.
Applicants Must Reside In Canada. Applications Close March 31st.

This scholarship's goal is to support an individual along their path of becoming a certified guide. It will assist an aspiring ski guide to further their personal and professional development by supporting prerequisite courses and/or other professional development programs that will make the candidate eligible to apply for ACMG or CSGA guide programs.
An idea born out of another good idea - when the giving is good.
Sofia Forsman started the Backcountry Enabler Series in 2020 as accessible education for backcountey awareness. Affordable seminars to “engage, educate and inspire” others to practice safe backcountry habits.
The RMU Scholarship has grown from the series to help support an inspiring individual who, just like Sofia, has aspirations to guide and faces the financial and practical hurdles. This scholarship will support the awarded applicant with the three key components that we identify to be successful: a community, mentorship, gear and financial support.
"I spent years in half broken gear either gifted or thrifted that I couldn't rely on, anything to save a dollar. Now, I'm in a privileged position to help someone else, and it's a given that that's what I will do." - Sofia Forsman
About the Selection Committee

The guide
Sofia Forsman
Maybe mostly known for her impeccable “swenglish” (a rare combination of swedish and english) and as the creator of the Backcountry Enabler Series. Sofia is an apprentice ski and hiking guide through the Association of Canadian Mountain Guides (ACMG) and a CAA board member. Well adverse in the hurdles and sacrifices that comes with throwing every minute of your time and dime at becoming a certified guide. She thought up this scholarship to help you along the way towards becoming a certified guide, just like her.
The Entrepreneur
Mike Weasche
Known as the perpetual optimist, who built skis in his basement on his day off from fire-fighting. What then was a fun small sized project has now become RMU Outdoors, a boutique Ski Brand known for its unique setup of bar, retail and ski shop, all in one, stores around North America - made possible due to, you guessed it, Mike’s perpetual optimism. He’s a true entrepreneur with a drive seldom seen and a huge smile on his face.

The Professional Skier
Alexandra Armstrong “Army”
Alex “Army” Armstrong is a professional big mountain skier based out of Squamish, BC. Formerly a ski patroller in Lake Louise and coach of the Lake Louise Mountain Club with roots from Ottawa, Ontario where she grew up racing. Now, Army has followed her passion for big lines to the Coast range and uses her strong technical skiing and avalanche safety knowledge to shred big lines with production companies such as Blank and TGR.
The Coach
Luke “OCHO” Allen
Mostly known as the co-Founder and Product Manager of RMU Outdoors with over 20 years of experience working in the ski/sports industry. Less known for coaching the Norwegian Freeski Olympic Team for over 4 years. As a coach helping his athletes get Gold in the Olympics, OCHO (or if you want to be fancy, Luke), has an eye for “the drive” required to make it in the industry and is a huge help in motivating his co-workers and athletes at RMU. No OCHO, no RMU as we know and love it.
