Skye Walker has a diverse background, spanning roles as a designer and art director in the action sports industry to creating large-scale mural installations for prominent brands across the United States. His work consistently reflects a deep connection to the natural world. Morris and Lynn Walker (Skye’s parents) taught their kids, Skye and his sister Amoris, about the importance of nature and how we are connected to our beautiful surroundings every day. Because of this influence growing up, each mural Skye creates serves as a reminder of Earth’s beauty and fragility, encouraging viewers to not only draw inspiration from nature but also to recognize the importance of protecting it.
“I was very honored when the team at RMU reached out to me to help create this new line of skis. The basis for the art direction was tied to surfing and surf culture, which is close to my heart and it resonated with me as I love surfing and how it’s impacted my life and art. RMU gave me the freedom to be creative, expressive and abstract with the paintings, but each one was intended to evoke a natural, familiar and energetic feeling of movement and flowing with nature. Each piece was linked in some way to surfing in the ocean, but also how those movements translate to the snow on the mountain. The curves, angles, and energy in the art are providing a visual feeling of that energy even in an abstracted manner. The colors are also indicative of the ocean and the movements of water.
We wouldn’t have snow in the mountains without the oceans water drawing up into the atmosphere to come down later as frozen water. I created this series of art to feel connected with the skis, the snow and the feeling of surfing through space and time on a mountain.” - Skye Walker
